Finance Manager - Private Family Office

About the Client

Our client is a privately owned family office with a diverse portfolio of investments across property, retail, technology, and other trading entities. Unlike many family offices that are purely passive investors, this group operates a dynamic mix of active businesses and investments, providing significant exposure to commercial decision-making, growth projects, and operational finance.

The family office maintains a hands-on, entrepreneurial culture with a focus on long-term value creation, integrity, and excellence in financial stewardship.

Role Overview

The Finance Manager will take ownership of the day-to-day financial management, reporting, and compliance across a portfolio of trading and investment entities. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical accounting capability, commercial insight, and the ability to manage complex structures in a small, fast-paced environment.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Finance Manager will ensure accurate and timely reporting, oversee compliance obligations, and provide financial insight to support business and investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end accounting and reporting for multiple entities, including trading and investment operations.
  • Oversee month-end close, management reporting, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Maintain and reconcile inter-entity accounts and ensure compliance with Division 7A and other ATO requirements.
  • Prepare and manage cash flow forecasts, budgets, and working capital.
  • Lead tax planning, compliance, and year-end processes in conjunction with external accountants and advisors.
  • Ensure all statutory obligations are met (BAS, FBT, PAYG, income tax, ASIC, etc.).
  • Support the Managing Director with investment analysis, feasibility modelling, and performance tracking.
  • Drive process improvements in financial systems, controls, and reporting efficiency.
  • Coordinate and review work completed by external bookkeepers or junior accounting staff.
  • Liaise with external advisors, auditors, and financial institutions as required.
About You
  • CA/CPA qualified accountant with 5–10 years’ experience in financial reporting, compliance, and management accounting.
  • Experience managing complex private group structures with trading and investment entities.
  • Solid understanding of Division 7A, inter-entity transactions, and tax planning.
  • High attention to detail with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Strong Excel skills and familiarity with accounting software such as Xero or MYOB.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Confident working autonomously in a small, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Discreet, professional, and able to manage confidential information appropriately.
Benefits

This is a rare opportunity to work closely with an entrepreneurial Managing Director and gain exposure across a wide range of operating businesses and investments. The role offers variety, autonomy, and the chance to add real value in a trusted and long-term position within a dynamic private investment group.
