The Opportunity

An ASX-listed services organisation is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join its centralised finance team in Melbourne CBD. This is not a payroll processing role. It is an accounting role with a payroll cost focus, sitting within a structured and high-performing finance function.

With approximately 70–80% of the business cost base being people-related, payroll accounting plays a critical role in financial accuracy, reporting integrity and operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities 

• Posting payroll journals into the general ledger
• Performing heavy balance sheet reconciliations
• Investigating and resolving variances
• Ensuring payroll costs reconcile accurately across entities
• Producing payroll cost reports for senior operational stakeholders
• Responding to queries from GM-level leaders

About You

• 3–4 years’ experience in a fast-paced accounting environment
• Strong balance sheet reconciliation experience
• Confident with journal posting and working within the GL
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, large data sets)
• Comfortable managing high-volume transactional data
• Clear, professional communicator
